Is your organization a covered entity under HIPAA?
Covered entities are health plans and health care clearinghouses, and any health care providers
that transmit health information in electronic form in connection with a HIPAA standard
transaction. The Privacy Rule covers your organization if you maintain health information
electronically and/or allow that data to be printed on paper. The Security regulations cover you
if you maintain health information electronically.
Who is considered "staff"?
Staff includes employees, volunteers, trainees, and other persons whose conduct, in the performance
of work for a covered entity, is under the direct control of a covered entity, whether or not they
are paid by the covered entity.
